A NINTENDO 64 CLASSIC EDITION? OR NOT…

Nintendo released an NES classic in 2016 that was then followed up by an SNES classic in 2017, and that could only mean that the company plans to release a reiteration of the N64 in a classic edition, or so we thought. Reggie Fils-Aimé, Nintendo of America’s CEO, has stated that he “would not ever rule something out… what I can tell you is certainly that’s not in our planning horizon.” He then also mentioned “We were clear when we did the first two classic series that, for us, these were limited-time opportunities that were a way for us as a business to bridge from the conclusion of the Wii U as a hardware system to launch the Nintendo Switch,” Fils-Aimé added “That was the very strategic reason we launched the NES Classic system”
“So while consumers may have been anticipating something,  we view these as limited-time opportunities. We’ve also now been very clear that as the consumer looks forward to engaging with our classic content that is going to happen more and more with subscription service.”
This definitely crushes the momentum that Nintendo could have kept going, especially for such a legendary console that has sheltered some of the best games of all time such as Zelda: Ocarina of Time or even Mario 64.  Nintendo has an online subscription service as well, but it seems to be falling short of releasing new gaming deals in a manner that’s timely enough. It surely takes a lot of patience.
About 30 or so NES games are up on the Switch’s online service, and they are the only games from any other Nintendo System that are currently obtainable.
“As we look to the future,” says Fils-Aimé “our subscription service, NSO, Nintendo Switch Online is going to be the place where you can play our classic content,” concluding his statement by saying  “We’ll see what comes next” as the curious question of will there be anything other than NES related content.
Do you think a Nintendo 64 Classic Edition is necessary, or would you be fine with even just N64 titles making a debut on the Nintendo Switch Online service?

I'm just a random guy with a passion for all things gaming, writing, editing, and anime related. I'm open-minded about pretty much everything, and I try my best not to kill people who reach for my controller while I play. (Disclaimer: If you do decide to do that, be prepared to come up missing). Other than that, we should get along just fine!!
